This is my first post here, and perhaps the first of many of the limited if not varied traffic at Southend Airport.
Here’s a few photos from this weekend, about as good as it gets at Southend!
First up is an Aer Lingus Regional ATR arriving from Dublin:

The scheduled Aer Arann flight from Galway and Waterford to Southend went tech in Waterford, so the passengers were taken to Dublin and flown in on EI-REL, a couple of hours late.
I’ll cut to the chase now, here was the star movement of the weekend which turned up on Sunday (if you’ll excuse the pun.) M-STAR arriving from the U.S. This is a newly registered 727 and is in a great new livery haven’t previously flown under the guise of M-ETIS all white. This is the new aircraft for Starling Aviation to replace another 727 VP-CJN.

That’s all, I hope this was of interest.

Thanks again for your comments. As far as I’m aware the 2 pilot 727 cockpit never came about. I believe that some cargo 727s have a cockpit mod with a hybrid glass cockpit such as on the 737 classics.
It’s very difficult to know who the 727s actually fly for. Most of them seem to spend a lot of time around the Middle East.

There was a design by Valsan to turn it into a two man glass cockpit but I believe it was dropped.

Keep us informed on Southend! The 727 colour scheme is a great improvement on its previous rather mundane colours. Previously operated by Wedge Aviation as N721MF, always a VIP aircraft and possibly connected with the oil industry?

Thanks for all of your comments.
I will try and get some photos of the 748s and the 146s on the north side of the airport, but they’re not all in very photogenic positions.
The 727 has indeed got the Valsan engine mods, along with I’m sure a lot of other upgrades since it rolled off the production line. This is a late model, being built in 1982.
I hope now to bring more photos from SEN as the place is developing massively. Once easyJet start next year the place will be entirely different. Certainly a long way from the days of the Cravair which MSR777 mentioned!

Has that 727 got the Valsan side engine mods?

What a beauty. It would be nice to see the cockpit.

Welcome to the forum. That is a stunning 727! I’ve only flown from SEN once, back in the mid 70s on a Carvair. Looking forward to some more pics from SEN.
