Hey everybody
I was a little surprised that nobody picked up on this but Dublin,Shannon and Edinburgh are all getting new direct flights to Eastern Europe.
The low cost airline Centralwings created by LOT Polish airlines in order to combat the growing number of LOCO carriers flying to Poland will commence the following routes for the upcoming winter season.
Edinburgh-Warsaw
Shannon-Warsaw
Dublin-Wroclaw
Dublin-Katowice
Flights commence in November and fares start from €14.45 one way excluding taxes.
Great news for all airports.
From Dublins point of view it is great to see more Eastern European destinations espeically in Poland considering 18 months ago there was no direct flight between the 2 countries and now we 4 different routes between the 2.
Shannon will be an interesting one as there is very few scheduled airlines flying to SNN apart from EI,FR,U2 and HLX.
I dont know much about flights from Edinburgh to Eastern Europe but I do know CSA fly to Prauge and GSM have a route or two so it will be interesting to see how all 3 do over the winter.

Most Malev passengers do connect onto other parts of Eastern Europe but their loads are harldy great. Todays mid afternoon flight is to have 62 people on it where s the morning flights are slighlty better.
They also have alot of competition from CSA and LOT as they operate both early morning and mid afternoon flights with tonnes of connections through Prauge and Warsaw.

Malev currently fly to Dublin and Cork from Ferihegy (Budapest) and they have some good onward connections, but their prices cannot compete with these.

Yeah, I knew this. 😉 3x weekly frequency. Excluding PRG, it is the first route EDI really has to Eastern Europe, so I’m sure it’ll do well, especially with the amount of Polish people in and around Edinburgh I notice about.
