A new start up Scottish airline called Air Caledonian is about to set up from Prestwick, serving the Scottish Highlands and Islands and Northern Irleand using Embraer Banderiantes.
I don’t know much more than I’ve just written and their website needs a bit of working up, but hopefully they’ll get off to a successful start.

Yeah i wondered at first as surly using similar logo and name means they would pick up any debts of the airline? I know someone who actually tried to launch Gill Airways again (circa late 02) as they were very popular BUT they would be forced to pay outstanding debts to buy the name from the creditors.
Was it anyone who worked for the original Gill? Can you say who it was, out of interest?

I know the guy who is running the ‘new’ Caledonian through a friend and all I can say is they won’t be around long. He planned to start under the brand ‘Classair’ about 12 months ago and then got bored an abandoned it when he got offered a job with a well known charter airline as an FO. It would seem that job fell through and now he is back to try and relaunch the airline under a different name.
Avoid at all costs!

Folk were paying over £100 for a short round trip from EDI..
EDI yes, but I think it may fall to pieces as soon as it hits those Hebridean gales. (lol) :p

PIK to Belfast – mmm with flybe competing from Belfast City to GLA and easyJet offering International to GLA i dont see a demand.
Also pretty much a cert. that it will a service from the International as most new ones are as they get a good deal for smaller aircraft at Aldergrove.

I have just looked at the price to fly from PIK – LDY, it’s £99 return inc taxes.
If I were to go with LC, GLA – LDY, it would cost me £163 return inc taxes. I have had it cheaper with LC though – £79 return inc taxes.
I never knew LC did not fly to LDY at the weekend, is this a winter timetable?

Highland Airways tried this last year out of GLA – competing with BA/Loganair to SYY.
The lasted approx 6 months on the route before deciding to withdraw because they could not compete with BA/Loganair.
As for their proposed PIK – Belfast route, along with Easyjet and Flybe out of GLA, they would also need to compete with the Seacat ferry out of Troon.
Ryanair have also been wanting to open PIK-SYY & SYY-STN routes for a while now, but the Highlands and Islands Airports want them to pay the going rate.
