I had intended going to the Newark Air Museum in January when there was snow on the ground but the snow on the ground and trains running to emergency timetables conspired against me. I though I’d wait till a sunny day and the weather reports were showing Saturday as being sunny. It was cold, but wall to wall blue sky and sunshine when I arrived but it clouded over by mid-day and I though I was going to see some snow. It cleared away again by the afternoon. The Canberra PR7 has been pushed back into the corner and the Meteor T7 has been brought forward into the seating area of the cafe. Not easy to photograph now. In 2 hangar, the Varsity and Canberra B(I)8Mod were open for visitors.
All taken hand held and distorted by a 11-18mm lens.

The Meteor T7 is awaiting the return of the Restoration Manager from holiday and I understand that it should be repositioned shortly! 😉
I believe that that eventually it will replace the NF14 in the workshop!!
It’s possible that prior to reassemby the NF14 will be moved onto the Southfield Site!
Nice photos! 😀

Update 24.02.10
Been over at NAM this morning and I can report that the Meteor T7 has now been moved into its new display position alongside the Canberra PR7.
Cleaning work now underway on the Vulcan in preparation for the V-Force event in April! 😀

Wasn’t the T33 restored totally in the last few years? There seems to be lots of the lettering flaking off already which is a shame.
By: TwinOtter23 - 31st March 2025 at 10:28
The T33 underwent deep refurbishment in 2001/2 and briefly went inside Hangar 2 when that was built in 2004. Pictured here during restoration http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showpost.php?p=1450551&postcount=11
IIRC it’s been outside for the last 4 years and the paintwork has begun to suffer a bit, the flaking paint issue is currently being addressed and the airframe is actually being prepared for repainting the white upper surfaces.

the Meteor T7’s wooden intake lips are starting to suffer a bit, still full credit to the team for keeping them in such good nick, especially the Bucc, she looks superb!

Is something being done to the sea venom?
By: TwinOtter23 - 31st March 2025 at 10:28
Yes – the Sea Venom is also currently being worked on; you can see tool boxes etc in Pen Pusher’s picture.
The Meteor 7 intake edges will receive attention when it goes into the on-site Workshop – post NF14 completion.
Work on cleaning the Hastings has currently stopped due to unsafe working conditions in the cold and wet conditions.

re;
considering the quality of the work done elsewhere, the prospect of the Hastings being refurbished fills me with glee. its such an overlooked a/c. Its astonishing what NAM achieve with volunteers.
By: TwinOtter23 - 31st March 2025 at 10:25
The Hastings cleaning programme started before Christmas but the weather and ground conditions have made it unsafe to get the access platforms into position around the aircraft. Things should pick-up again in the spring.
I will ensure that the museum volunteers and staff are aware of your positive comments about their hard work! 🙂

With luck and a following wind I’ll be down for a visit first weekend in June, can’t wait to see what’s changed since my last bimble around about 10 years ago 🙂
By: TwinOtter23 - 31st March 2025 at 10:25
When you make along to Newark I hope that you’ll be pleasantly surprised – a lot has changed in the last 10 years!
As a ‘bimbler’ are you related to Pen Pusher? 😀
By: Blue_2 - 31st March 2025 at 10:24
No, I have nothing like his photographic skills! 😀
Haggled successfully for a visit that weekend with she-who-thinks-she-must-be-obeyed as it’s the weekend after my birthday, so NAM and the Hobgoblin pub beckon for the weekend 🙂

Curses! Not much use without an alcamafrol licence though- perhaps with the angle of the floor the Hastings would make an ideal licensed premises for NAM though…:D
By: TwinOtter23 - 31st March 2025 at 10:24
You missed a trick – you should have asked to have your whole birthday party at the museum; IIRC they hosted 5 or 6 birthday’s last year for a mix of veterans and enthusiasts – special access to some of the planes, buffet etc – sadly no alcohol licence though!
As for the ‘party bags’ what a great selection from here! 😀
By: TwinOtter23 - 31st March 2025 at 10:24
I don’t think there’s a problem with bringing your own supplies – it just doesn’t have a licence to sell alcohol; ask the ‘cockpiteers!’ 😀
Cannot help with the Hastings floor though – :diablo: ‘tail up taxi-runs’ around the Southfield Site!! 😮
By: Blue_2 - 31st March 2025 at 10:24
Was more thinking that the floor angle would add to the entertainment after a few sherbets! 😀
By: TwinOtter23 - 31st March 2025 at 10:23
I was with you on the ‘floor alcohol levels’ Blue, but IMHO ‘tail up taxi-runs’ around the Southfield Site would be far more entertaining!! 😀 😮
By: Blue_2 - 31st March 2025 at 10:23
Oh yes! I’m with you now sorry!
By: Pen Pusher - 31st March 2025 at 10:21
A bit more of the cleaning of the Hastings.
Howard
Once I get them sorted, I’ll have a picture disc in the post to you for the archives.

Nice shot – I hadn’t realised how much cleaning had been carried our on the rear fuselage of ’517; 😮 sadly I’ve not ventured to that part of the site since before Christmas – too wet!!
Any photographs will be appreciated by the team; I believe that some of your night shots might be used in a new RAF Training Timeline that’s being prepared by one of the heritage students’ who’s doing his year 3 placement at NAM. 🙂
