A petition to grant a hero his rightful pardon.

For what it is worth can I ask each of you who, like me, is ashamed of the dreadful treatment meted out to Alan Turing after the war to sign this e-petition?

Far too late now, but it is one thing this generation can do.

If “Agent Zigzag” could use his MI-5 contacts to be steared clear of worse criminal charges at the time, surely they could have done the same for Alan Turing as well.

I cannot think of a more deserving case. If a definition of genius is a capacity for original thought then Turing had this in abundance. He was a victim of his time. A victim of an intolerant society unable – certainly in his case, to live and let live.

He never received the recognition that was his due. I’ll be signing.

Alan Turing was ‘convicted’ after trying to report he had been burgled…..I wonder if the police bothered to catch the burglar? 🙁

Petition

Duly signed.

I saw the documentary about this a couple of weeks back and was, frankly, appalled by his treatment.

I’d also like to say that the programme was done with respect and good taste, the characters being portrayed in a balanced and convincing manner. It could only add contrast to the inhumane and callous treatment he received.

Good luck with your petition, Andy.

Duly signed.

And I’m with Andy but perhaps this isn’t the thread to discuss that particular issue. Might I suggest you start one on GD?

Regards,
