Why did the British go ahead to develop the Tornado ADV when they had access to much better F-15 and F-14.
In a book I read which is FIGHTER by Mike Spick it states they did not pick either of them, it said F-14 was unaffordable, it’s TF30 turbo fans were unreliable and it’s avionics regarded as dated at that time, while it said F-15s lacked the necessary range and one man crew and avionics were inadequate for extremely demanding conditions.
Are these the real reason Britain chose the ADV version rather than F-15 or F-14? because they would’ve given Britain MUCH better A2A abilities than the ADV.
