A Rearwin for Melvin…

Do you know about this one (OY-AVJ) in Denmark (not the same model as yours, I believe):

Here’s another I shot this Summer thanks to those helpful people at Upsalla.

This is GV-38 c/n 5, SE-AHD.

These pictures were taken at Arlanda. Next to the GV is Noreseman SE-CPB (89). These aircraft are part of the Arlanda collection.

Do they have any engine spares for the Sportster? G-AEOF needs some.

Consul – crafty trick of them to park it next to a Norseman! Suprised they didn’t paint them both red as well to confuse the unwary!

I spend all day (and often evenings and weekends) translating, Daniel!
Here is a snippet:
“Konstruktionen fick blandad kritik. De förstärkningar man adderat gjorde flygplanet tungt – men också robust. Bland flygarna var omdömena oftast positiva. Planets känslighet för sidvind gav emellertid upphov till det föga smickrande smeknamnet “Gunghästen”.”
There was a certain amount of criticism of the construction. The strengthening that had been added (by Göteverken in their re-design) made the aircraft heavy – but also robust. Pilots generally had positive opinions. The aircraft’s sensitivity to side winds however gave rise to the scarcely flattering nickname “Rocking horse”.

The story is that the GV-38 is an exact copy – with the inch measures on the blueprints transformed to the closest upper metric value… Consequently it is more robust – and heavier – than the original Sportster.

There is a short history of the GV-38 at www.gvfs.se > Flygplanen > GV-38 > Historiken
It’s in Swedish – in the mood for some translation, Papa Lima? 🙂

Swedish “Rearwin”

Göteverken did redesign the Rearwin 9000 (or 2000?) to some extent. I am still researching the GV-38 at Svedinos, as part of my preparation of their English language aircraft catalogue.

I can’t remember, are they exact copies or were they redesigned in any way? The Porterfield that looks very like a Sportster was designed by the same buy and when Commonwealth took over Rearwin (and promptly made is go broke) they did a lot of redesign on the Skyranger.

It’ll be nice to get them all together sometime.

Melvyn, please don’t call our Sportsters Sportster, they are Götaverken GV-38 you know.
And only one flying in the world.

Thanks Kenneth,

Just got back from Jersey and the best party I have been to in years.

This is a Sportster, so not the same as mine but interesting anyhow. It has the five-cylinder engine and they should know that some parts are being re-engineered.

There are now two Sportsters in France, one in the UK and a couple in Sweden.

How many Cloudtsers . . . .

Just the one…..

But there are a couple for sale and they are good aeroplanes
