Just remembered that the postponed BBC Horizon documentary about the AA A300 crash will now be shown next week on Thursday the 8th of May at 9pm on BBC-2.
I can record it for anyone that doesn’t get BBC and wants to see it.

I remember watching the live ITN coverage of the accident, when a witless Mark Austen stated “if an aircraft like this had an engine failure on take off it would be a miracle if it didn’t crash” – thanks Mark – on Performance A catergory aircraft (ie most jets)an engine failure is considered on EVERY take off.
Moondance whos this Mark Austen????? Doesnt he ever heared of ETOPS???? and also doesnt he ever heared that Airbus A300 is licensed for ETOPS activity????

You would think so but most A300 operators are now including training on rudder misuse as part of twice yearly sim checks.

It is not possible (I would think), and don’t call me Shirley!

Hang on a minute, surely it is not possible to apply so much presure on a control surface that it actually breaks?
I though all aircraft had “limiters” and “dampers” to avoid that?

Hmm i thought it was CX…….must be JAL.

Horizon always offers a good balanced view so it should be interesting compared to some of these other documentaries.

It was an assumption , but they were not sure …

Yea…the vortex created by a CX B744.
By: wysiwyg - 29th April 2003 at 11:07
I was under the impression that the aircraft flew through some wake vortices and one of the pilots over-applied rudder input causing the fin to shear.

Should be interesting.
As ar as I know , they didn’t find any reason for this crash did they?
