Just a little reminder of what makes life good

Would be quite happy to lend a hand if I’m available. I’m due to do my annual stint looking after space cadets at 611VGS at Watton during April (TBC), but if it helps to keep real aeroplanes flying, I’ll help. At least it’s a rag wing, even if it isn’t British! Seem to remember making a model of one years ago (or maybe a Tri-Pacer, but close enough!).

Ah, a man of taste π
I think the wingtips are a modern aftermarket addition.
I wonder what they are supposed to do?

OY-ABJ from the front. How about those wingtips? Looks like a later mod. When did they become available?

Well kept cockpit. (Red leather seats need a blanket apparantly!)

The mentioned Colt was in fact a PA 22, Tri Pacer, Carribean. Swim vests for crossing a bit of water.

Time for the bucket and sponge then mate?

You’ll find it on the half mill, but not in any of the flight guides. Landing there is strictly invite only (Not that we aren’t free with our invites)
Yes it’s grass. The only remaining hard runway now constitutes the hardstanding outside our hangar that you can see in the shot above. If you look closely (er.. not on the photograph) there are still some 1942 dates scratched into the drying concrete.
But it is wonderfully free draining and you will not generally pick up much mud there, even after the heaviest of rains. But the Colt does visit other, less fortunate strips.

Is Knettishall grass then Moggy? I can’t find it in Pooleys, but I thought you still had hard runways there?

And finally, a glider under tow by a Chipmunk.

Here are some photos from Cosford yesterday.
Don’t know why this Cessna was there, Grob Vigilant in the background.

One of the most elegant colour schemes – the βnewβ BP logo π

Skimming the tree tops. An emergency procedure when caught in rising wind is to hit a tree squarely with the basket to stop the momentum of several tons of hot air (and the rest of the balloon). Then more or less βcrashβ from there.
