I have been recently passed the memoirs of the above gentleman who was a director of the Redwing Aircraft Company before moving to Blackburns and Miles- does the name ring any bells to any forumite?
It is beautifully written (we had AVRO 504Ks- the toothpick ones’) ( we worked on al types of aero engines including the Rolls Royce Falcon ‘oh those split pins’)
and references various specific aircraft including Moth EBWA ‘simba’ Drone G-ACRO and so on
I am not sure what to do with it – am checking with his niece (he passed away late last year) whether she would like it published -it only runs to 40+ pages) and whether she has any photos of the period – seems like a fascinating chap!
Can post some extracts if of interest

Try contacting Alastair White of Acebell Aviation at Redhill aerodrome, I know he has close ties with the Robinson Redwing society. He should know who to contact.

The Robinson company was based for a time at Blue Barns aerodrome, adjacent to the A12 just outside of Colchester, Essex. I remember the hangar still being there in the mid 1970s (saw it on my way to Bentwaters to see the “Blue Angels” with their F-4s.)
Any of our Essex boys or girls know if its still there?
Although my first flight was as a toddler in a Dragon Rapide (apparently) my first flight that I can actually remember was with John Pothecary in G-ABNX at Lydd – lovely!

Ben,
Is this “Redwing” as in the Redwing (biplane) aircraft of the type restored back in the eighties by Jim Pearce, which was then based at Redhill at one stage?

I didn’t realise Jim Pearce had a hand in this – G-ABNX was owned by John Pothecary for many , many years and he based it at one time at Shoreham where he ran his aircraft business. I think he’s now based in the Old Sarum area. When at Shoreham John restored many aircraft including Spanish DH60s. Are you saying Jim Pearce rather than John worked on ‘BNX?
