it was scrapped at cambridge a couple of years ago, owners couldn’t afford to pay the bill, and after sitting round for quite a while it was eventually scrapped.

This looks like the one scrapped at Cambridge? Would I be correct? Shame as it was near the end of an overhaul when the owners decided they didn’t need it anymore and so she went for spares / scrap.

Nose

Was the nose saved? It looks like it was in the photos.

No, all went to scrap yard.

Mike J!
well from my point of view, you could not be MORE wrong! I spent 5 years flying the airplane, fantastic machine, great autoflight panel, wonderful systems, the DLC was an amazing invention. The Tristar was a pleasure to fly. The cockpit is roomy, and very very quiet. If it had one downfall it was the RB211 22B engines, oli and vibration were the two weakness, but the 524`s were much better on the 500`s.
Anyone that flew the Tristar still has a soft spot of the airplane, and so for me the pictures are quite sad.

Damn site better than a DC10; fewer loose engines / cargo doors etc.

Do people really get misty-eyed nowadays at the sight of a ropey old TriStar meeting its end?

I flew in one once, bl00dy noisy and uncomfortable, sat right at the back under the engine. Lousy cabin service from TWA too – no wonder they went under.

Yes they do.

It would have been noisy if you were sitting under the engine in a TriStar.

One of the best meals I ever had on an aircraft was on a TWA L-1011.

But then I’m a one-eyed Lockheed lover.

Would have been cool to buy an old airliner and use it as an house 😉
