A salute to Maj George E Preddy Jr …The Mustang Ace !!!!

BlueNoser352 offering a salute today for Maj George E Preddy Jr top scoring ace with the 352nd FG on this day some 71 years ago. While on escort duty with the famed 352nd Fighter Group that flew out of Bodney in the UK during the war. Maj George E Preddy Jr shot down 6 German fighters while protecting Eighth Air Force bombers over the Reich on a long escort mission ! The Greensboro ,North Carolina native was the top scoring ace at the time in his famed Fighter Group. Sadly both he and his younger brother Bill who flew with the 339FG were lost in combat before the wars end. Both men rest forever in the US military cemetery at St Avold , France !

Nice tribute.
Bodney Tower was still ok in 2010 when I visited.
A really nice atmosphere there I also explored the old 487th FS area including the spot where Preddy and Meyer parked their planes.

Has anyone been by Bodney lately ? my last visit was in the middle 90’s and I am wondering if the old control tower is still there. Hope to return soon one day.
What a peaceful place is was on my visit’s back then….such a home to a gallant band of warriors !!!! The BlueNoser’s !!!! Long live the memory of the men of the
352nd Fighter Group…no doubt living up to their group motto …………….”SECOND TO NONE ” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks !

Clips below are from 352nd historian & author Sam Sox…the were taken 71 years ago today as the Major returned to his hard stand at Bondey. Many on the base were eagerly awaiting his arrival from his mission since word had spread of his deeds on that day ! A tired young man who had been in combat against the Luftwaffe on this day !!!!
