A Sunny Stansted Last Night

Took a drive upto STN yesterday evening, couldn’t resist the excellent weather. Unfortunately, a bank of cloud was near the horizon, meaning that the Sun disappeared a good hour before sunset. This meant that I missed the UPS 767, GSS 747, Air Contractors A300 and ATR, Titan 146, Channex 733, TNT A300 and West Air ATP all departing (the most interesting movements of the evening!).

However, it was nice and Sunny for a long time before, and so here’s what showed up. I was taking advantage of the bright lighting to get some shots right close-in to the departures.

And at what point did I say it was part of RYR? I mearly stated it was a company charity – much as is RMHC is a McDonalds company approved charity!!!

Sobered up a bit now – perhaps a bad example (RM Stands for Ronald McDonalds), but what I meant to portray was it is a favoured charity of that partcular charity. Can’t express myself anymore – head hurting far too much… 😮

Orbis is not part of ryanair, ORBIS International is an international non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO) focusing on prevention of blindness and the treatment of eye diseases in developing countries. It is best known for its “flying eye hospital”, presently a McDonnell Douglas DC-10. ORBIS is headquartered in New York, with offices in Houston, London, Hong Kong, and Taipei.

In addition to the flying eye hospital, ORBIS operates hospital-based programs in several countries, and works with local medical research and health-care organization on blindness prevention and eye disease treatment. A new program called “Cyber-Sight” uses the Internet to connect ophthalmologists for one-on-one collaboration and mentoring.

Great pictures there love the Blue 1 BAe 146-200 and all EZY shots.

I’m pretty sure that Orbis is a Ryanair company charity. If you look a little bit through the press releases on the website you may find a bit more.

I’ll tell you what Dan, keep posting shots like that and I’ll gladly pay your fuel costs. (Or at least buy you the beers I owe you when Tom ((LBA)) and I visit STN on the 9th August if you’re around!)

Paul

Cheers Paul! I’m afraid that I’ll be on my way back from PMI on the 9th. Another time!

Cheers…..Tom! That’s 3 Tom’s in a row…

Last night I think sparked the photography addiction in me again. It can become very tedious in the Winter, spending lots of money going out and coming home then struggling to edit much, and eventually it can be difficult to hold onto that urge to be outside taking photos. Whereas last night, it cost me about £1.50 in petrol, and I came home with a fair amount of sharp, well lit shots.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone! Stuart, I was also gonna ask about the Orbis sticker….I flew on that aircraft last week.

Cheers Tom and Tom!

It was fun shooting the close-ups again, it’s not really possible to get some of those angles unless the Sun is really intensely lighting it. It can be very hard to keep everything sharp and not-grainy, especially with the 50-500. The one of EI-DHO where the nose gear is just retracting was taken at 417mm.
