hey who was laughing at FS1E’s!!!! 😀
great fun on mine… twas a purple one not a ‘kenny roberts’ I’m afraid!

yep Morini’s are great little bikes.. mine was a trailie which was fun.. the sports are wonderful but I’m too well built for one of those… the engines are really nice as is the handling.. 350cc v-twin, belt drive.. spares are easy from North Leicester M/C’s (who also import/sell bikes), and they’ve got a good club…

Very nice wee bikes , have you seen the Moto Morini 500 V-Twins , some of these look good and they are advertised in Classic Bike fairly regularly – I was just wondering if anybody has had a blast on one of these ?? , the wee cafe racer ones look good . A good Sunday bike ??

My dad had a Ducati which looked very similar to yours , I seem to remember that his was a 360cc ???

Pic – Pantah

One of the first belt-drive Dukes in the country. Very expensive for the time (£3500 in 1981), and beset with problems, such as needing a gearbox rebuild within a month. When it was working, a fast and stable ride. Turned heads too!

Firstly , Macky42 , Wow an FS1E , I would love to purchase one of them again – remember the ones in the Kenny Roberts colours – black and yellow , I would love to buy any of the YPVS machines , maybe an RD250YPVS – ahhh the smell of burning 2-stroke oil.
And Brad , I admit to speeding on motorway in the past – I bet most people who own bikes will at least try once to see what the max speed is , I work backshift , so when I finish work it is dark and the Motorway is deserted , I have seen 180 mph on the clock of a borrowed Hayabusa – on the M8 at 03:00 . I don’t condone this type of thing , I only do it as I cross the boundary between West Lothian and Strathclyde and both police forces only go as far as the nearest roundabout then turn and patrol the other way , so the stretch of road between Newhouse and Harthill is always empty – if I do see car headlights I slow to a legal pace.
The Ducati trellis frame doe’s look very antiquated , but it has the advantage of being very light , even the engine is a stress bearing part of the structure , it also makes everything on the bike easily accessible .
A 600cc bike is a good starter , my first decent bike was a Kawasaki ZZR600 , I loved that bike – it was reasonably fast and very comfy for long distances – but once you buy a bigger bike it is impossible , I stiil use a RVF400 occasionally but I end up wringing its neck . I did race a few years back but have had a few injuries over the past couple of years ( not all bike related ) , however I have just joined a new club and am thinking of doing the Cupar Motorcycles 400cc Production Series next year , with the RVF.

Heres some questions for the bikers: How many of you go out on a track and do 270kpm (or do you do that kind of speed on public highways)? And isnt 1000cc+ overkill? Ive heard you dont need anything past 550cc. And doesnt the Ducatis steel tube frame look a bit “nostalgic” compared to the japaneese molded aluminum frames?
BTW- I did own a 81 Yamaha 600 once (sold it before I killed myself on it)

Don’t actually ride a bike, but I have been an avid follower of all things bike related for a while now and I have to say the new Kawasaki ZX-10R looks awesome!

BSA Bantam D7
CZ 250 (cheapo Czech workaday bike but excellent handling)
Ducati 450 Desmo (glorious)
BSA A10 (in bits)
Ducati 200 Elite (in bits)
Ducati 900 GTS
Ducati 500 Pantah (first of the belt-drive V-Twins, a bit fragile)

The last two were just for commuting. Don’t have anything at the moment, just as well probably as I’m one of these old ‘born-again’ bikers and bound to have an accident
😀

A 999 or RSV Mille would be nice.
