One of my favourite pictures of Neil at a Yeovilton air day. He was a big fan of the Swordfish and was in awe of the men who flew her in combat. The photo was sent to my by a friend after the Firefly accident (If you are reading this John, please drop me an email).

Stringbag’s
Go for it Rlang mate 😉 , post away,
I thought as much, thank’s Mark,
I remember reading some aircraft had trouble’s knocking them down too, The Fw-190’s in the channel dash, had to drop their flap’s and gear to slow down enough behind them for a kill, but at that slow speed the Stringbag was the more agile, and hard to keep in the cross hair’s.
But still they did get wiped out in the end of that one(R.I.P. lad’s 🙁 ).
Here’s a few more from Axl’s 😉

Amazing planes…glad to have been able to see one fly when I was over there a few years ago…
I did hear that the Biz’s guns were set up to track faster aircraft that they expected to encounter in combat and so were not set up to deal with slower planes like the Swordfish…something about the lead needed being too much and they could’nt set it up any slower than it already was…I don’t know…talk to the Navy guys for the technical mumbo jumbo…but no Swordfish was shot down by the Bismarck’s guns so something was definitely off, they SHOULD have been meat on the table…but thank goodness they were’nt and they did their job well.

Who can sing the song.
Adolf’s Big Boom Boom ship crippled by a bunch of slow Stringbag’s  , how sad and embarassed he must have been the poor chap 😀 .
Was it true they where so slow it made them difficult for the new German targetting system’s to track them properly  .
