A Tristar at Glasgow.

I was driving past on the motorway yesterday from a nice day at the coast and spotted a rarther distinctive tail, sticking up from behind the Loganair hangar. So in I went and there she was… beautiful !

Operating for Thomas Cook, I give you CS-TMP of Luzair, a Tristar 500 series and great to see at GLA ! Photos taken on my phone, a Nokia N73.

Enjoy !

Correct, it was G-BMLP. This is not a photo of that plane but a similar one which describes the reason for the hump, it was indirectly a part of a JATO system…

Yes, that’s right. G-BMLP was ex XA-CUE of Mexicana who, over the years, operated a number of airliners equipped for rocket-assisted takeoff from ‘hot and high’ airfields.

The ‘hump’ was local fuselage strengthening, installed because it was felt that it would be a bad thing for the RATO ‘bottles’ to actually overtake the aircraft in flight…. 🙂

Who remembers the Dan Air 727 with the hump on the rear fuselage? Was it G-BPND?

No, it was G-BMLP (cn 20710). 😎

Well the N73 is a 3mp camera phone, but overall was way too slow for my liking, i’ve upgraded recently, and Nokia’s camera’s keep on getting better and better! (The video quality is also amazing on the new models).

Yeah it’s a decent little snapper for a phone camera, think I’m due an upgrade soon and will be looking at a 5mp phone, a couple of nice new Nokia’s fit the bill. Great to have such a useful camera in your hip pocket, especially when you suddenly clap eyes on a Tristar !

Thanks for those–ABSOLUTELY LOVELY!

The Tristar has certainly been kept busy by TCX:)

Was lovely to see it going down the approach at LGW a few days ago!

Now that is a good looking aircraft… why couldn’t it be operating for TCX when I flew with them 🙁

Now then…now you mention it, they were quite special planes. All them black smoke trails from the turbojet engines. The 1-11 is the one most special to me.:p

It was a at Manchester last week doing a TCX as well. You got to luv the TriStar, a truely unmistakeable aircraft. I can remember when Air Canada and British Airtours amongst a few operated them into Manchester many moons ago.

So security is still pretty tight after the last incident when you can get that close?:diablo:

Only if you scale the security fence first… That’s the joy of mobile phones, small enough to shoot through the gaps easily, but yes that stand, on the site of the old hangar is only about 30-40 feet away from the naked eye.

Here are a few more shots taken on the DSLR, you get a better sense of the proximity to the fence, and apologies for the dirty image sensor, need to give the 10D some TLC…
