Here are a bunch of shots I took last year in Chile.
There should be something here for most tastes from Bleriot to Phantom, despite there being many ‘deathly dull’ side views. Military, civil, WWII, derelicts, workshop restorations et al.
Suitable captions was a serious negative to them being published so let’s give ’em an airing here.
Feel free to comment on types. Bob Ogden’s book can probably identify most of them.
In no particular order then but broadly grouped…..

Chile Museum
What a beautiful place congratulations on the restorations….The Cessna 195 is gorgeous, I used to admire the polished one that flew around at Marana until its landing leg snapped one morning, I believe its flying again now after suffering more damage being transported away on a trailer.

Hunters and more
By the way, here are some images that I took yesterday at the Museo. The three Hunters are those that have been sold.
Cheers!

What happened to all of the hunters that were in outside storage?
Hi Peter: all these Hunters are still there; the only news is that three of them have been sold to a US collector who wants to rebuild one airframe restore it to airworthiness condition.
Regards from Chile

Catalina restored!
hi all;
I could tell that, since those photos were taken, the following aircraft have been restored:
(…)
-the Catalina is undergoing a deep restoration, as it is going to be rebuilt to represent the ‘Manu-tara’ aircraft, the first plane to reach Easter Island from Chile’s mainland in the fifties.rgds,
C182RG
Here I’m including two of my images taken last August of the restored Catalina, inside Museo’s main building.

Mark12, great photos!
Cessna 172RG, do you have an id for the Cessna 195? Also, do you know if any of the FACH Cessna T-41As has been preserved?
Regards,
Jan
Jan: the Cessna 195 is dressed as CC-FCC, later CC-ECC, look at this photo of it in its current status:

No Cessna T-41s have been preserved, but at lest three of them are still airworthy with Aguilas Blancas Aero Club (the ex FACh officers and cadets aero club). I saw these on October 9 at Melipilla.

LesB:
today, the ‘343’ looks exactly as in the third photo you posted here…I’ve heard that the second Caberra is going to be repainted soon.
Best,

the one in the photo is FACh 343; 341 is in much poorer condition at the Museo’s facilities…
Thanks for the info Cessna, my typo in previous, should have read 343 of course not 347.
These are the two remaining (of three) PR.9s given to Chile after the Falklands. The pics I have of them are 1997 vintage with one taken in 2000 of 343 sans markings. Would appreciate any update news on them.

Good pic of the PR.9. There should be two there I think, 341 (ex-XH166) and 347 (ex-XH173). Would you know which one your pic shows?

ooops..I forget to mention that the Museo aeronáutico has a pair of fully-restored DH.115 and those bits have been moved since. One of the Mentors that appear in a photo parked outside the main building was an example -of two- currently owned by Club Aéreo de Santiago (Santiago’s Aero Club); there’s another Model 45 in private hands (the owner dressed this one in a ‘Lima-Lima’ colour scheme)

Museo Aeronautico
hi all;
I could tell that, since those photos were taken, the following aircraft have been restored:
-Vultee BT-13
-Cessna 195
-Aeronca L-3B Grasshopper
-the FACh C-47 has been resprayed
-the Catalina is undergoing a deep restoration, as it is going to be rebuilt to represent the ‘Manu-tara’ aircraft, the first plane to reach Easter Island from Chile’s mainland in the fifties.
With regards the Bleriot, it is a replica, too as are the M1Cs, Avro 504 and S.E.5A. There’s an odd replica of a Wright Flyer 😮 .
Another aviation museum in Chile is the one located at Base Aeronaval Viña del Mar -near Valparaiso-: the Navy has preserved a UP-3A, EMB111A(N), EMB110C(N), Beechcraft 45, D18S, Bell 47G and a C-47H.

Further to Mark12´s visit.
I happened to be walking past the museum in Santiago this morning… like you do!
Been a few changes since your visit, including the appearance of a Canberra and the reorganisation/ hangaring of the derlicts. I need to call the museum again later but there may be some interesting news coming from Los Cerrillos airfield in the near future! 😉
I´ll post some updated pictures as soon as I can.

I had hoped to make it over to the museum while I was in Chile a couple of weeks ago for the APEC conference. I ended up only spending a few hours in Santiago and the rest of the week was spent 240miles away in Concepcion. The only airplanes of interest I saw there (besides my C-17) were an O-2 and a P2V Neptune Firebomber.
However, there is a really cool bar/dance club there called “Club Katanga”. I highly suggest a visit there if the chance presents its self!
