Another cold, wet and windy day at Duxford but that didnโt stop an Apache flying through. With my camera on the tripod, I spent most of my morning visit trying out different settings and speeds under the varying lighting conditions in the hangars and seeing what would happen, and now I have a lot of deleting to do. Not much change in the hangars. TFC Hawk is undergoing some maintenance. Engine cowlings are going back on โSally Bโ and a cockpit side window is now fitted to the Blenheim.

Oh dear Brian, if you’d been around at about 3pm you would have seen us push the Buchon outside in its new Battle of Britain Film colour scheme and leave it there for about half an hour. Better luck next time…:p

Thanks again for a set of excellent pictures. The Seafury looks great. The dirt on the tail wheel tyre is a shame though :).

Is there only one Hurricane on display at Duxford and is that the Memphis Belle or just a Memphis Belle?
By: Denis - 31st March 2025 at 10:13
‘Sally B’

As Denis has said, she’s “Sally B”, one of several B17’s used in the making of the 1989 movie, hence the paintjob.
Currently there are two Hurricanes at Duxford, the airworthy one pictured above, and a static example that belongs to the museum.

Three actually. The airworthy HAC Hurricane, and the two replicas. Hangar 4 and the weather vane at the gate. ๐

Are there any plans for the heinkel to get restored for the 70th aniversary of the battle of britain ?
By: FarlamAirframes - 31st March 2025 at 10:10
Last Flying Legends – we had a couple of people tell us that a Memphis Belle panel was wrong as the Esquire lady should be in red and the writing should be bigger and more flowing.
As you know the artwork on the port is Blue and Red on starboard and that the original font is small and blocky.
The Memphis Belle artwork on the Sally B is from the movie and the writing has some Artistic license. I heard it was requested from the film crew to be more visible.. Even if incorrect.
It would appear that people believe the artwork on the film is correct and the original is now wrong…

Oh and Sally has a B17G chin turret – the Belle was an F – no forward facing guns – which is why she was so famous as having finished a tour…

?????????
She was the first to complete 25 missions and then fly back to the states…..she was not the first to fly 25 missions!
That honour I believe goes to Hells Angels of the 303rd.

??????
Bomberboy – thank you for filling in gaps.
However, if you read my post – I just said she was famous and had finished a tour – not what position she finished in!
