… Glad something survived, wasn’t the owner somewhat of an @rse about it all

That’s one way of putting it – non-cooperative and unrealistic also fit the bill!

Liked to give his dogs ‘free-range’ in the latter days as well!!:eek:

Used to pass the Lightning twice a week for a year, stopped a few times, it was before it really started going downhill, or uphill I suppose, after it adopted it’s new pose, I did venture up the back an peeked in the cockpit, it is better inside than I remembered.

I recall the radar unit was pulled out and lying around on site, and in small stencilling it had with love a/s/f Binbrook near the bottom of the tail fin.

My congrats to the new owner, couldn’t have found a better home, looks like a top notch restoration is being carried out and already seeing great results.

Great to catch up with all of this. I had assumed the worst from a few years ago. As someone else has posted – an A1 icon – I couldn’t list the times I passed it, watching its miserable demise. Good luck Darren – a daunting but hopefully fulfilling task!!:applause:

Thanks for that feedback and I knew that XN728 was with Darren – perhaps late last night I misunderstood the Twitter feed that was created yesterday! 😮

It’s good to see progress being made and reported! 🙂

XN728 is alive and getting Better

There was some chatter on Twitter yesterday that suggests the cockpit from XN728 might have changed hands again – is anyone aware of anything happening?

XN728 is being currently located at the former RAF Binbrook, being restored as a cockpit section by Mr Darren Swinn. He has a thread on Facebook, you can join to see updates on its restoration.
Visits to view the cockpit, need to be arranged with Darren.

See here for some pics of the restoration;

Dead thread resurrection I know, but I wondered if there was any news about 728’s cockpit section a year on from it being saved?

Now that her cockpit has been saved, on behalf of the new owner, I have edited the title to reflect this.

😀 Oh brilliant,just a shame it couldn’t have been done many years ago but in a strange way she was probably the most famous of them all in everyday life.
She became a national icon on the A1.

Do you want to continue this thread thus changing the title or do you wish to continue the restoration in a seperate thread Matt?
