Believe it or not. This video shows the second aborted landing and go around of a Lufthansa A320. The first and second landing attempts failing because of strong crosswinds in the Manchester Airport (MAN/EGCC) area. She makes a successful third attempt at landing which must have come as a huge relief to her passengers and crew 🙂
This happened on 30 May 2010.
If you were a passenger on this plane would you…
a) Love it. And want more.
b) Love it. But never want it ever again.
c) Hate it. And throw up having staggered on to Terra Firma.
Quite an experience to have on the ground, but I’m guessing a very different experience on board the aircraft itself.

Bog standard id say ?

The landing in MANAIRPORTMAD!!’s post is much more mundane by comparison.

Ah Sorry yes
In a hurry
I clicked on the link further down….yes re the original vid..that quite normal…..nothing unusual at all….a procedural go around.

The wing hit the ground and the end of it was knocked off meaning he went back into the air with a shorter damaged wing…….otherwise he was coming off the side of the runway……….does that happen every day??
Are we all watching different videos here?
There is obviously no damage to the wings and finlets (certainly not ‘shorter damaged wing’) at all, and the wings remained fairly level throughout the landing, all looks like an average day at work to me!

There was nothing normal or usual about that….it was serious in fact

Yes, there are crosswind landings that look much worse than they are and those are very common…..almost routine……this was something else

nothing special or out of the ordinary about that.
Have seen much worst than that.
In fact a pretty run of the mill aborted landing

WoW! this footage is absolutely awesome, are the CAA aware of this? or perhaps National Geographia can make a good programme of this near miss? Absolutely unbelivable, nail biting stuff!

Well, it wasn´t that bad. Planes do it everyday. It happened to me once (and a lightening strike), and since then, I cancel everytime the winds gust too strong. I am a paranoid weather forecast observer. 😀

Remember this one?

Is the wrong link been posted here maybe?, just looks like a run of the mill landing to me too.. Anyone have the link of the spectacular wind shear landing??
By: Schorsch - 31st May 2010 at 21:50
I can’t see anything spectacular, only that trying to land after the second abort normally is against SOP. But I guess the crew had its reasons.

I’mnot too sure what was so awsome about this?
By: Deano - 31st May 2010 at 19:31
yes indeed 27vet 😉
A costly set of go-arounds as you state, those winds are a standard day out from some of the airfields we fly into 😀
By: Arabella-Cox - 31st May 2010 at 19:25
Tongue in cheek:D
By: Deano - 31st May 2010 at 19:21
Likewise
Not sure what the big issue is either, you sure it was the strong winds etc that caused the go-around? The worst METAR yesterday for MAN was the wind at 290/19G30, and this was the worst conditions over a 1½hr period, hardly life threatening conditions 😉
By: CloudWarrior - 31st May 2010 at 19:14
Ive seen worse.
By: Arabella-Cox - 31st May 2010 at 19:10
Spectacular! That must have been some crosswind/windshear (and cost them an extra $3000).

I thought I was going crazy when I kept seeing a Lufthansa A320 fly past the house every 10 mins – this explains it! Cool vid! 😀
