WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Airbus A319, A320 and A321 have received ETOPS 180 qualification from the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) had already granted the certification march 2004. With the new certification the A320 family can be used on routes where the nearest airport is 3 hours away.
The first plane with this certification will be delivered to a unknown American customer. The plane being an A319 corporate jet.
In the second half of this year Airbus hopes to get the same ETOPS certification for the A318 from both the FAA and EASA.
