A380 in service

Anybody know when the much anticipated A380 will be in service and with which Airline
Also why did they call it the A380-800 and not the A380-100

Most of the customs work is done well before you know about it. Nowadays the customs at LGW and LHR send sniffer dogs onto your bags as soon as they get taken into the luggage area. These dags have been trained to smell different items…. ie some can smell money, others can smell lots of tobacco. It is very rare for anybody to carry large amounts of money in the suitcases and the dogs pick up the smell, when the cases have been ‘tagged’ they are watched and you will see customs at the exit. Loads of people bring in fags, and the dogs have been trained to ‘tag’ the strongest smell. Its very clever what and how it happens.

Other times you will see customs at the gate is at selected times when certain flights have landed. Recently a mate of mine (security at LGW) told me about a gang of blokes flying to Tenneriffe every week with almost empty suitcases, they have light cloths in them so the x-ray sees it. When they got to Tenneriffe they buy 1000’s of fags and fill the cases up. They had been watched for a couple weeks at LGW and at Tenneriffe and finally caught.

So next time you dont see anyone at the exit gate, your cases have already been sniffed!

… says the guy who had trouble at US Immigration recently…

They let me in though did they not. Having a problem can be a good thing, it means they’ve heard of SECURITY and CUSTOMS, something lacking on arrival at LGW nowadays, there are no persons at the “something to declare” area.

The first A380 for Air-France is scheduled for delivery in November 2006 and is intended for its long-haul routes between Paris and Yankie-land.
Singapore Airlines is expected to start the ball rolling in March 2006, and although Emirates are also being tipped as they are ‘the main launch customer’. This phase has been quoted on a few sites Ive looked at.
Qatar Airlines was also in the running.
Lufthansa is taken its A280’s in 2007
Airbus still expects to deliver around 300 aircraft this year and hopefully will sign at least one more A380 deal this year and is in talks with three airlines in Korea and Japan, believed to be Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airlines and Korean Air.
FedEx Express will take delivery of three A380 aircraft each in 2008, 2009, 2010 and one in 2011.
Airbus are also expecting to launch the A340-500 and A318 this year.

Im getting confused lol, lets make all of the top airlines launch customers lol!

There are several customers already, 12 I think, Qantas, Qatar, SIA, Air France, Korean nd others, SIA wasn’t the launch because Air France had interests before they did, But Air France isn’t the Launch either because Qantas had interestes before they did. YM bets are on Qantas being the launch customer becuase with this aircraft they could open up ultra long haul flights in comfort! I knwof or sure that the A380F launch customer was Fed-Ex!

they called it the 800 is because they want to get the image across that they are going to do it right the first time, there is going to be the 800, the 900 (stretched) and a freighter version, no plans on a shrunken version tho!
