A380 on track for 2006.

The story.

BTW, what kind of terminal and hangar modifications would be needed to accomodate this 555 seat giant? If any.

Regards, Glenn. (with an ever sprouting interest in Commercial aviation as well..):)

Crash? One of the first things that came to my mind when I saw this monster. It only increases the tragedy of any such event. 🙁
Lets hope they just stay up and come down when they are meant too.

Regards, Glenn.

RE: A380 on track for 2006.

I’m not questioning general safety, its the number of people that would be onboard if somthing went wrong.

This was brought up with the 747 and as we’ve seen, most of the larger scale accidents (the larger death tolls) have involved 747s due to the large amount of PAX onboard, e.g Pan-am @ Lockerbie, Air India of the west coast of Ireland, Singapore Airlines @ Thailand etc…

The A380 being the largest @ 555seats would be a terrible accident IF somthing were to go wrong.

Are we not just revisiting old arguments that were raised when 747’s were introduced here?

Do you feel less safe on a large 747 than on a smaller 757?

RE: A380 on track for 2006.

It’s a good idea in terms of moving more passengers with the same or less a/c movements, (which is ideal for somewhere like LHR). But if somthing were to go wrong (e.g a crash), the outcome would be catastrophic.

The person who even thought up the idea of a double decker aircraft should have his/her head examined. It is a completely crazy idea (in my opinion, anyway) and I think this is just a really dangerous experiemnt where we (the general public) are being used as little guinea pigs.

RE: A380 on track for 2006.

Thanx for the news Glenn…Changi is making two gateways over each other to accomodate the A380. I think thats the best solution as passengers on both the decks will exit the aircraft at the same time.
