Here is a very short bit of footage starring the A380 going through its taxy tests in Toulouse. It was featured on M6, a small French channel, tonight I believe. You can hear the engines spool up in the background and I have to say they sound incredible, to the point a shiver ran down my spine!
When the link is established, click on the “Region” link and scroll down to Toulouse.

Although not in the ear-splitting category of the Olympus that powered the Concorde, I would imagine that 4 Trent-900s will still make a fairly distinctive sound.

I seriously doubt that it will be very loud, despite its size.

It is not a great looking plane due to it’s nose. If the nose was projected forward so the cockpit was in the middle it would look nicer. But its not there to look good it’s there to carry people and make money. I just hope its loud! My hearing has started to ruturn after many years of Concorde(RIP π ), lets hope the 380’s makes people turn round and stare everytime it lands and takes off?
If we wanted a good looking aircraft get the Russians to design it! IL62,76,86, Tu154, great looking aircraft, and coal fired π  !

I wonder if the test pilots will get a bit nervous before the first flight…? Now I’m sure it will fly, but there’s a lot of folks watching an dI think I’d get a bit twitchy if I was asked to fly a design that had never flown before.
Andy
The test pilots have spent many hours flying the aircraft in a simulator over the last few years. As well, I am sure that they will have flown the first flight in this simulator to counteract any problems which could occur. With what’s on the line, I am pretty sure that they will leave nothing to chance!
