AA B757-200

Hello, everyone.
I’m off to Boston in a few weeks for a concert and bought a BA return ticket (very reasonably priced, I might add) to get me there.
The outward journey is courtesy of American Airlines and, on looking what would be taking me, I was surprised to see that it would be a B757-200.
Is that correct? I thought they had all been retired by now. If it is, I suppose I should be grateful for the chance to fly an aircraft that will soon be unusual in European skies, but on the other hand, the cabin looks a little narrow and not all that comfortable for an Atlantic crossing.
We shall see, I suppose, but does anyone have any experience of the relevant flights?

It’s a bit of a hike just to attend a concert, I’ll agree, but you only live once…

I went to Atlanta last year just to attend Dragon*Con

I’m going next year too. As you say, you only live once!

Never mind about the plane, who are you going to see?:p

Now, there’s a question.
I am attending the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s February 16 performance of Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite; Stravinsky’s Concerto for Piano and Winds and Shostakovich’s Fifth. The conductor is Stepane Deneve.

American Airlines were late customers for the 757 so they won’t be retiring them just yet.

MrTotty, please PM me when you post your flight report so I don’t miss it. Thanks. 🙂

BTW A good reason for photographing your meals…tell them you’re doing a critique for a travel magazine…they will bump up your service :dev2:
Secondly, order a special meal with your booking. They always serve those first.

I’ve flown a L-1011 with RB211’s. Great engines and a fabulously spacious aircraft.

AA’s 757s have RB211s strapped to them.

Yes, I do try to fly the A380 where the option exists, but a 757 it is this time.
I’m much looking forward to it in actual fact, because I don’t think I’ve flown one before. Countless instances of literally everything else, but not a 757.
I will do a trip report for sure, though I will have to explain to the person sitting next to me why it is that I am photographing my meals before I start eating.

MtTotty, I trust you will do a trip report with pictures for everyone 😉 We all know you like the A380 and a 757 probably seems like a light aircraft to you :p

Why would all 757s be retired by now? Some are only 12 years old.
It’ll be in European skies for many more years to come. AA and CO/UA are operating profitable small city to hub routes with them and are refurbing them to last longer.

I’ve travelled Trans atlantic several times on the 757 and it’s perfectly fine.
Put it this way, there are less folks to fight for space with at the luggage belt!

There are some here that will tell you that somehow the 3X3 seating is less comfortable than 3X3X3 on any twin aisle BA can offer TAtl, but I have experienced both and I cannot truly see any difference.
The cabin service is the same, the food tastes the same.
Some say twin aisle is better as you have less chance of getting stuck behind the trolley service on your way to or from the toilet. But I find that isn’t true, on a twin isle, they simply have 2 trolleys in the Y cabin, one per aisle. So in effect you actually have twice the chance of getting stuck.
