AAA Site, Hadleigh

One of the places my wife and I like to take a walk, is Hadleigh country park. This is where they had the mountain bike event at the 2012 Olympics.
They have recently put some display boards up, to remind people of the significance of the area during WWII. There are still one or two buildings
surviving, possibly ammo stores ?

Looking out across the Thames towards Kent.

You can’t see the actual emplacements any more, but there are a few other visible signs. There is
a nice cafe there too, selling light snacks. It’s best avoided weekends and school holidays, as it can get very busy.
We normally park at the Sally Anne car park (Hadleigh Castle end) and walk through. Then again, if you are fit, you
can walk right through from Leigh.

My dad was in the RA and was posted here for a while.
Whilst here both he & his best friend in the unit met a pair of local sisters and ended up marrying them both.
They both survived the war and came back to live in Leigh.
I’ll have to go take a look at this as these emplacements are indirectly responsible for me & my brother being here.:)
