AAIB report on Wildcat G-KINL* crash in 2023 released

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/66b23fc5a3c2a28abb50dddc…

tl;dr – the runway was soft under a hard crust, the Wildcat’s undercarriage went through the crust, and its high centre of gravity combined with much faster than usual deceleration on the soft ground ensured that it turned over.

*They slipped that reg past the censors!

Not that I am aware of,  though I am not an active participitant in the  warbird scene so I’m likely to be the last to know.

Proves how quickly things can go from good to pear shaped , glad the pilot got out albeit with injuries. Has the Wildcat been returned to the air yet?

*fnarr fnarr* I’d rather not know what you want to do with my mother, thank you! Ironically, her new man is, as far as I can tell (not met him yet) a retired aero-engineer.

Wasn’t MoggyC’s Vans that got terminally bent G-NADZ? (quick google – yes it was)
