I recently posted a few pictures of abandoned aircraft in order to identify them. That post gave me the idea for a thread devoted to pictures of abandoned aircraft.
It fascinates me, that people can completely discard material that once represented a considerable value. Naturally there are often financial, or technical, reasons for such abandonment, but sometimes it just seems like the owner said “Thats it; I have had enough”.
If there is a need to discuss individual aircraft in detail (besides identification and basic questions), I think we should do so in a separate, so this thread can remain focused on the images.
Lets keep it to historic aircraft and try not to get too many DC3’s ๐
If possible, please add any known information.
Here is the first. A Curtiss C-46 CF-IHQ from Wheeler Airlines: located north of Scarpa Lake, Manitoba. Picture taken 2006.

I’m not sure John, I didn’t look into their identity. But they are japanese, as some of the other pictures showed Japanese cockpit decals.

Here is an unusual and rare bird….resting on Svalbard. Crew survived and had a bit of a walk home……
Seems almost like its worth recovering.
Definately worth recovering! ๐

correct!
Indeed it is, good shout Jon ๐ Infact this very aircraft is the inspiration for my screen-name! (seen in happier days on my avatar)
A small team consisting of the airframe owner and a few volunteers, myself included, are on standby ready to re-instate the aircraft on the airport. Tis will be the first time the aircraft has been in one piece since around 1993ish when she was dismantled for transport to the Jet Age Museum. On losing the premises the museum was forced to move the airframe into external storage on the airfield, upon which she was bought by a private collector and awaits her turn for some attention. Boggy conditions prevent us from doing anything until the ground firms up..so..watch this Canberra shaped space!

In that case I apologise. There is a larger fuselage as part of this little collection (at least on Google Earth), looks like an airliner, are you able to confirm what it is?
Could it be this? –

Nice picture.
If you surround the link with [img] brackets, the image will load as part of the post. In the final [ ] bracket, you need to write /img to indicate the end. I can’t do it here, as it will appear to be an empty image.
It should look like this:

I have used a small L rather than i, so you can see it.

Right, found a couple –

This one I have posted before. Replica Spit at Wellesbourne Mountford – was a static in the BoB film – I’m sure someone can confirm that?

Lovely Meteor shot. I always liked the look of the meteors with the many windows in the canopy.

Yes a little bit;)
In February last year, I took this photo in NยดDjamena, Chad. Two DC-6ยดs and two C-47ยดs. Only one of the C-47 is visible from this angle.

Here is a link to surviving CL44. Including the guppy.

Looks like Canadair CL44, if so; it should be recovered.
I read on wikipedia that the Ecuadorian Air Force has salvaged one for later display in a museum, but I don’t know any more about it.
