Up at Aberdeen over the weekend, dropped in to Dyce on the Saturday night and the Sunday morning, quite good for photography and no hassles.
Hand held night shot, 1/8th sec F.4, taken from the ‘Farm Road’ next to the official viewing area, a nice quiet spot overlooking the main ramp and runway, also good because the sun will be behind you most of the day –
A shot from the ‘mound’ on the east side, probably best early morning due sun position, also some airfield ‘furniture’ around which can ruin a pic –
Another view from the Farm Road toward a room with a view –
A view towards ‘The Wedding Cake’ –
A shot from another ‘mound,’ this spot is on the left as you drive toward the Terminal –
Fairly quiet the times I was there but it can get interesting I believe. Also most fixed wing arrivals/departures should taxy past you on the farm road, the Helo’s will not.
Here’s some more shots taken in April last year –

One’s BAC Express, and one is a Benair Machine aquired from Sunshine Express of Auz.
In the BMA Embraer picture the Sheds are G-JEMX and G-SSWB when Emerald flew the mail runs.
Thank you for the information.

Many thanks for that info DJ17, much appreciated! Although not definite, I’m very tempted about the 18th February….now, anyone care to join/meet me?

Excellent shots! It’s a shame you didn’t have a tripod for that first one. Still, not bad for 1/8th hand held!

Great selection there! I am beginning to get quite tempted about heading upto ABZ. Is the ‘farm road’ in walking distance from the terminal, and is it in the right place with the Sun for most of the day? And by ‘official viewing area’ is it actually a terrace or anything, or just somewhere that security etc encourage people to gather? Is it mainly just ramp shots available from there?
Maybe not the best pic to illustrate this but looking at this pic – http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0285939/L/ the Viewing Area is just adjacent the Main Ramp at bottom left, the farm road runs along parallel to the fence right ’round to abeam the r/w 34 threshold are. HTH.

Yes, the farm road is right next to the Official Viewing Area, which is about a 5 minute walk from the Terminal, just turn left as you come out.
All it has is a Bus Shelter and a couple of seats, but it’s better than nothing, the farm road is right next to it and you can just walk along here for different angles, and the sun will be behind you most of the day.
For a different view turn right when you come out of the Terminal and you’ll see a grassy mound, this overlooks one of the helicopter aprons and the remote parking fixed wing apron and there can be quite a bit of variety here, I think there is a Polish An26 parked there during the day for a night mailrun?
And if you just continue following the Perimeter Fence you will come to another couple of helo aprons.
The only place you won’t get access to if you don’t have transport is the East Apron (some visitors park there) and Bond Helicopters and also BMI Regional Maintenance but if you have a decent pair of bins you should be able to read the reggies.
