Abingdon or Old Warden?

Faced with a choice of venue to kick off my airshow season this weekend.

Old Warden is much closer, but I know there’ll be plenty of other chances to go there this year, while Abingdon seems a long drive for just a two hour display. Where would my time be better spent chaps?

Cleaning party after the OW Display

Yes please!!

All volunteers keen to love the Maggie and PT22 up after the display please report to Andy in Beds.

Cleaning them down afterwards – when the bugs are still squishy, the oil still runny ( and boy do those old engines throw some out!) – is always the best time to do it.

Dont forget the Brasso to ‘re-bling the Maggie cowlings – they are on and off half a dozen times at least and get covered in fingerprints.

In fact, I think Robbo will be having the prints analysed to find the culprit(s)!!

See you all tomorrow – B there or B square.

I’ll be at OW on Sunday. Is there an a/c cleaning party at the end of flying?

You’ll be upset if one of the Aviation Trustees turns up in his preferred mode of transport then 😉

If “Damien” is going to Abingdon, and “Manonthefence” is going to Shuttleworth, then I don’t need to go to either…… just wait for the photos to be posted!!!!!!!

Only joking, i’ll make the 20 minute journey to be at Old Warden, it’ll be the first opportunity to use my new SVAS membership!

Interesting, “Manonthefence”, that you are coming to Old Warden…. given that (according to your location) Abington is considerably closer to your home. That’s commitment for you! Remind me to buy you a pint some time! 😉

Just tooooo many eggbeaters at Abingdon for me, and the interesting classic jets are listed as ‘Static’ only, so I’ll be off to OW!

You must be yolking! 😉 how can THREE be too many?

‘Cos rather annoyingly I’ll be in Ireland. My only flying experience during the w/e will be with Ryan Air.

Shuttleworth Runway

I heard a whisper that the new runway is not available for visitors at the moment. Does anyone know the story behind this? Does it affect the resident aircraft in the same way?

Why not come along and find out for yourself?

The difference between Old Warden and Abingdon is that although the former has lots of unique machines, the show is predictable and you know you’re going to see the same planes over and over again! Abingdon on the other hand is an unknown quanitity and the chance to see something different and a good variety of machines too.No contest for me, I can go to the next Shuttleworth display but Abingdon is only once a year!

I am particularly looking forward to the Phantom display this year.

Eh? That’s passed everybody by? Do elaborate…

I see in the paper tonight there’s a big 2 day car show on at Shuttleworth, Old Warden Park as well this weekend. That should make the traffic interesting! Especially if a couple of those old classics go sick on the way in / out.
