Abingdon show ( May 18, 2024) Postponed- do not travel .

The organisers of the Abingdon show have released the followiong statement.

”Due to exceptional circumstances well beyond our control sadly our 2024 event being held on Saturday 18th May is postponed.

The reason being there is ongoing Ministry of Defence ‘correspondance’ that cannot be resolved in the timescale to the Air & Country Show which was due to take place in just over a week. However positive steps from the Ministry of Defence are being taken to resolve it in good time to allow us to re-stage an event much later in the year. We are sorry for the news but the committee and core volunteers are looking forward to seeing you soon with the new date to be announced once known.

Thank you for your support.

All participants are being informed during today & ticket holders stand by for correspondance from the ticket provider.”

What a shame for the organisers who work so hard to put this together,  and it has been a much enjoyed feature of the airshow calender for 20 years or so.

I smell BS. I do feel sorry for the show organizers and hope they can find a venue that won’t be prone to similar “admin errors” (or whatever the truth really is).

I think that merits a FFS!!!

Someone has screwed up very badly indeed. It’s a delightful show,  too. Hopefully they can sort something for the autumn.

”However, on Wednesday we received an email from the MAA (Military Aviation Authority) who oversee any airshow that takes place over military land to say that there had been a major administration error by the Army at Dalton Barracks and neither they (the MAA) nor DIO (Defence Infrastructure Organisation) had picked it up since the error was made over six months ago!

This error has resulted in no civilian aircraft being allowed (currently) to operate out of Abingdon, which has a huge impact on our show. We are very hopeful that the issues can be resolved by the Army, MAA and DIO in the coming months and that we will be able host the show towards the end of September or early October. A date is yet to be confirmed, one of our number is meeting”

FFS…
