I wonder if it can target airraft and what kind of effect it might have? Another possibility is as an ASAT system seeing as there’s less of earth’s athmosphere for the beam to contend with.

Contractor-funded studies have considered a potential role against aircraft, cruise missiles, and surface-to-air missiles. According to Boeing vice-president and ABL programme director Michael Rinn, the ABL would need target handoffs from a E-3 in order to operate against aircraft targets.

There is no potential anti-satellite role. ABL can only be used against a thermally ‘bright’ target such as a ballistic missile whose propulsion system creates a significant infrared signature.

It can destroy a solid-fueled ballistic missile !!!! 😮 It should be a really powerfull laser.
