ABZ granted runway extension

Councillors have approved a 300m extension to Aberdeen Airport’s runway, allowing larger aircraft and greater flexibility for those travelling from Scotland’s north east..

It will be interesting to see when the final draft of the Masterplan is out, which should be imminent now the runway extension has been approved, whether there are any amendments compared to the outline Plan currently shown.

Given the continual strong growth at ABZ, you would have thought that the BAA would give some thought to upgrading some other badly-needed aspects, eg. more stands, parking areas for aircraft, expanding the terminal (eg. MORE than one carousel please :rolleyes: ) & so on.

Interesting they are also talking about enlarging the cargo area, but I would have thought that area could be needed for terminal expansion, & that the cargo area would have to be rehoused – but where?

Also if Trump’s dream becomes reality & he gets his golf complex (which i hope he does) then potentially many more businessmen/tourists could arrive.

I wonder whether BAA has in fact underestimated what has happened at ABZ up to now, & could happen in future.
