reported:

On 17 May 2005, about 11:15, a JGSDF AH-1S attack helicopter made an emergency landing in Mobara City, Chiba Prefecture.
It belonged to the 4th Tai Sensha Helicopter Tai, Toubu Houmen Koukuutai, JGSDF, based at Kisaradu Base, in Kisaradu City, Chiba Prefecture.
It wasn’t armed or damaged.
Its crew were pilot Major KAWAGUCHI Kazunari (44) and co-pilot Second Lieutenant TAKAHASHI Shinichirou (27).
At 10:00, it took off from Kisaradu Base. It was one of a flight of four. It was scheduled to RTB at 11:20.
During its training sortie, while returning to base, a warning light indicating metal object had entered the engine came on.
It looked for a safe landing site, and landed in a 20 m X 20 m open space, used for storing materials for industrial water equipment/facility, about 100 m from four civilian houses.
Metal powder may have mixed into the engine oil, and none of the engine parts looked missing.
Later, after its engine oil was changed, it returned to base.

A housewife (58) coming home saw the helicopter circled several times. After it landed, she shouted and asked what was going on. The two crew got out, apologised, and said they were the SDF.
