Accident with MD80 in Holland

An MD80 of Onur Air is involved in an accident at Eelde airport in Holland. News is just in, but all 140 on board are “safe” according to first reports. Looks like a landing or take off mishap. BW Roger

Some more info from a pressrelease:

The aircraft never took off, and slided off the runway in a field, some 50 mtrs from the runway.

However, and that is what I think that eyewitness talked about.

It made a missed aproach during landing this morning, and had to make a 360 to land again (without problems).

That’s it for the moment. BW Roger

It almost looks as if that is the runway behind the MD-88.

Flaps…..Set.

As far as I know, it never got airborne during take off, or it was only airborne for a few meters. As a result of either of these, it ended up in a field. I don’t belief that “eye witness” story of the aircraft taking off, making a 360, and landing again.

Glad everyone got off OK with no major injuries. As is the case with any incident like this, things could have been far worse.

Someone living near the airport has given a reaction to a Dutch newspaper. He said the plane was already airborne and that it flew very low over the cityblock he lives making a very sharp turn. “probably to get in a good position to make a emergency landing” (quote translated from Dutch). He feared the plane would crash into his house.

For now there has been no confirmation whether the plane got airborne or not.

De 140 passagiers hebben het toestel vrijwel ongedeerd kunnen verlaten. Een aantal reizigers met knie- en nekklachten is ter plekke behandeld, meldden de hulpverleningsdiensten, die groot alarm sloegen.
