Just come across the rumours of some buried Spitfires in the marshy ground around Acklington.
Is this another Burma, or should I give it credence?

If half true, probably one which crashed while flying from Acklington or Eshott, plenty were pranged in the area.

Castle Bromwich, are these the three that have been “dumped” on the A452 A47 island near the old factory? 🙂
Joking apart this island is well worth seeking out if you are in the area, do keep hearing it called Speed fire island though :eagerness:

Not at all. It’s a possible lead and I just wondered if anyone could shed some light.
We are talking disposal, not brand new, lovingly wrapped, inhibited, crated and inexplicably buried 15 metres deep under a concrete cap.

Oh no!….not again 🙂
Moggy , are you playing devils advocate by starting this thread?

If it’s just a few rumours with no known hard fact to back them up – and the distinct lack of a suggested serial – then it certainly doesn’t deserve the “go and have a look” approach. Will a walk around the perimeter immediately allow someone to spot the site? Acklington itself is a prison, apart from the area that was a large open-cast mine. Good luck on your stroll.

Only way to find out is to have a look instead of discussing it at lenght on a forum.

Is this before or after they dig the ones up at Castle Bromwich?
