Jerry Yagen celebrated the opening of his beautiful, brand-new facility in Virginia Beach today with a private party, as well as some air activity. Today being Memorial Day, of course, Mr. Yagen himself flew the P-51D “Double Trouble Two” in formation with their FG-1D Corsair and the well-known Spit IX MJ730 in a tribute flypast over the local veterans’ memorial.
This didn’t take long, as the site was just a few minutes’ flying time from his field in Pungo, and the three aircraft came back over the grass runway one at a time, giving the new airfield a proper high speed “beat up”. My wife and I had received a call from a friend about today’s activities, and we jumped in the car and made it out just in time to catch the soul-stirring sight of the three aircraft screaming across the field at full chat. Although it only lasted about 10 minutes total, I’d have to say this rates as one of the best airshow experiences I’ve ever had! 🙂

Yes C-FGAT flew down for the opening. Mr. Thomson’s really getting around.

Mark V–
That looks like the front end of Sandy Thomson’s Fury (C-FGAT) visible behind the Yagen Spitfire. Is it?
