I was wondering if anyone has any more info on what looks like an interesting upgrade for Russian fighters
I’ve only managed to come across the following so far…
From the manufacturers (Tikhomirov) site
ADYUTANT Radio-Electronic System with EPOLET Phased Array

…
From Jane’s Defence:
Description
Associated with the Adyutant radar system, the Epolet phased array is designed to support and/or replace standard legacy radar antennae on aircraft such as the MiG-23 Flogger, although the basic array can be applied to various applications where a small and lightweight (conformal) phased array is required. In common with most modern Russian radar systems, the Adyutant/Epolet combination has been designed to operate as part of a fully integrated airborne opto-electronic system, able to provide control for missiles such as the R-27.
Applied to aircraft such as the MiG-29 Fulcrum, after acquisition and targeting with its main array, Epolet conformal arrays mounted on either side of the nose facilitate missile support while allowing the aircraft to turn up 90° away from the target, enabling the Fulcrum to extend its range-to-target and ensure ‘first kill’ before the bogey’s own missiles arrive.
