I have only found ONE photo of her with the missile launcher, it appears that both A + B turrets were “hidden” when she had the launcher. Although from the angle it is hard to tell exactly what her configuration was then, but per the drawings the 6″ were pulled from A turret and it was then turned toward stern. The missile hangers were built on either side of the turrets.. Note the foremast. DFO :confused:

You can see three (or even all six) 15,2 cm barrels of one of the forward turrets on the photo, you had linked.

The drawing linked by snake65 is probably correct. This would also facilitate the building of a model, because the differences to a standard Sverdlov are not that extensive.

Please show the model, when you will have finish it.

Hi all, I just thought I’d post a photo I found recently as I wish to model the Nakhimov too. I read that the forward turrets were removed but later replaced but I don’t know how reliable that is but I will point out that just because a photo says it is the Nakhimov being scrapped it may well be a sister ship. I believe she was extensively used as a target before being scrapped. Anyway this is from a site that is the Russian version of Navsource and contains photos I am sure were censored for many, many years

Facinating that the russians went for the V-1, even addapting it with a twin engine, and the last diagram showin the seperate storage of the warhead, truely facinating.

Is the ship in question a version of the project 82 heavy cruiser or the pr. 25 battleship?

The ships in the pics actually are an independent design. Nevertheless, at the same time (1947 or 48) CKB-17 carried out a design proposal SK-17 to arm Project 82, 83 and 68 bis with similar launchers. In that case one of the versions of Pr.82 was going to carry 4 triple trainable turret type launchers with a total of 295 10XH missiles, for instance.

These are design studies at CKB-17 in the end of 1940s, they are centered mainly around 10X, 14X and 16X (Soviet derivatives of Fi-103)

I’ve never come agross a single reasonable pictute of this missile arragment proposal and I once even heard someone saying that there were never any existing russian models nor drawings of that design…

Wow thanks everybody, Im now realy pleased I started this thread there is some great information and pictures here- thankyou very much everybody!

Whilst we are in this sort of area does anybody have any pictures or information regarding the proposals to build a Stalingrad Battlrcruiser as a guided missile cruiser. Apparently at least one large hull consistent with a battlecruiser was spotted in the 1950’s but it was later scrapped. I am very intrigued to know how heavily armed a guided missile battlecruiser would have been in the 50’s!

Equally any info on other countrys proposals from this period would be nice, I have seen pictures of projected british guided missile cruisers and I know that there were plans to convert the King George V battleships into missile cruisers (pictures would be welcome) I have also seen pictures of a proposed Iowa class battleship missile cruiser conversion.

While we’re on the subject, does anyone have pics of the unit that was transfered to the TNI-AN in the 60’s? I have searched for pics of it even in Australian museums as I know some were taken but I have not found any yet.

Do You mean after it was transferred? I’ll have to look around.
