Star Alliance announced today that it has approved the addition of two regional members, Slovenia’s Adria Airways and Croatia Airlines.
In order to become a regional member, aside from meeting certain requirements, carriers must be sponsored by and have close ties to an existing member to achieve a quick and easy integration. In the case of Adria Airways and Croatia Airlines, their long-standing partner Lufthansa will assume this role. To passengers, the regional member carriers offer the same advantages as other Star Alliance members, including frequent flyer benefits, lounge access and through check-in.

Anyone worried that the star alliance is growing too fast? I think so anyway!
Growth is all nice and well, but you have to have an organisation capable of growth, and in the case of the star alliance growth on a massive scale. The thing is, many companies in many industries have grown very fast in the past. And a good deal of them could not cope with the demands. The solution for many of those companies was to hire more and more personnel, which in the end inflated costs too high.
I think that the Star Alliance should consolidate what they have and then move further. Heck, their North American partners are in a dire financial position. USAirways looks very threatening. UA seems to be pulling through but is still in a lot of problems. Air Canada is not going particularly nicely either.

The Star Alliance just keeps growing and growing, and despite what people say to the contrary, increased members is what is good for the business traveller, as it gives them far greater flexibility with their loyalty cards. OneWorld in particular just seems to be left standing at the moment, with no expansion in recent years, members rejecting pleas to join, and others seriously considering pulling out :
