I have inherited a collection of negatives, slides, books and various publications acquired in the 1970s. I want to sell, but I have absolutely no idea what would be a reasonable price to ask or where to look for someone who would be interested.
Can anyone suggest where I might get some advice? I know that there are auctions from time to time of items of interest to railway enthusiasts – are there any for aviation? Is it possible to advertise items for sale on this forum?
The heart of the collection is a number of boxes of black and white negatives – I reckon there are about 7,000 negatives – mostly 60mm x 60mm, some 35mm and 60mm x 90mm. They are in envelopes marked with date and location. There is a list of negative purchases and I suspect that this collection was bought from someone who worked for Scottish Aviation at Prestwick. Many of the negatives are marked Prestwick but there also a fair few from other locations such as Leuchars,Abbotsinch,Biggin Hill and also overseas including Gibraltar, Dakar and Sydney. They are mostly dated in the 60s.
I would really appreciate any advice.

Dominic Winter have sales of exactly this type of thing twice a year. Next one is in May, they always do it when I’m out of the country, probably at the request of my wife so I can’t spend anything.

Sandy,
you may have to write down the subjects including serial numbers, or even scan some of the collection. Its a load of work but surely will pay off when you sell stuff like this.

I am still searching for images of our Auster mk.6 former RAF serial VF608 so if you find some….:D:D

Someone at Air Britain might be interested. In the past I’ve come across photos taken and presented under their banner on the internet – available to all for free. What a wonderful legacy that would be to the person who took the photos.
