Advice on visiting East Kirkby

You might be best contacting them direct. I’m not sure there is a lot in the way of public transport, but they will almost certainly know the good local B&B or Inns.

There’s definitely no buses during the week that run to East Kirkby. I was visiting Coningsby for the first time a few weeks ago and made the trip up from London by train mid week. Im a keen walker but there were few footpaths negotiable because of mud and water, obviously this will change during summer but I still couldn’t find many paths. I think EK was about 8 miles from Coningsby and there are a few good cab services around if you’ve got the cash, for me it seemed the only way to cover any distance quick you really need a car for the area.
Coningsby is well worth a visit though if your going to be going to East Kirkby, its like a taxi rank for Eurofighters with few Harriers and Tornados thrown into the mix.
For B&B I stayed at The Old Coach House Motel which was in North Kyme about 3-5 miles from Coningsby, it was pricey though at £49 a night!

Thanks for the tips. What train station did you use when you visited Coningsby? I hve emailed East Kirkby to see if they can recommend any public transport to the museum.

There is an excellent bus service that runs an hourly service Lincoln-Skegness to a late hour..Stagecoach No.6…this could deliver you Lincoln-Spilsby or Lincoln-Horncastle….after that more research required..

This No.6 service is very well supported and runs with quite full loads…and can get to max capacity plus in Summer I’m told….

(East Kirkby may have Spilsby in its postal address..but it is of course in reality several miles South West..)

There are other connecting services…..but I can’t help feeling that I heard something about a change to some of these on the local news in the last few months.?? ..and they may require some registration..so wonder if that is local biased.??

If you do camping there is loads of camp sites around and some very close within 3 miles.

You are split into two groups, forward of the main spar and aft. Within those areas you are free to wander around at will. I ‘flew’ aft and had a short spell in the rear and mid upper positions, but in fact it is better on the daytime runs to keep your head inside the aircraft. Looking out of the windows shows you a load of people in casual / sports gear waving a zillion digital cameras at you. Very 21st Century. Inside it is still the 1940s.

It can’t be booked on the day, you need to arrange well in advance.

Taxi already been mentioned – if you have deep pockets. What about the other end of the scale? Lincolnshire is fairly flat and said to be good for cycling (never tried it myself though :)) – hire a bicycle??

get a b@b in skeg they are dirt cheap. u want a 6 bus (skeg to lincoln) to spilsby takes 30 mins. get a cab from spilsby it will take ten mins. any pub will have a number.

All you need to do is allow yourself plenty of time. There is much more to see than just the Lancaster and you’ll kick yourself if your schedule is so tight that you don’t cover it all.

I hugely enjoyed the Queen Mary Trailer ride around the whole of the site with a really knowledgeable lady (who I think might have served there) giving an intelligent and interesting commentary. It doesn’t run every day, but I guess it may for the airshow.

Thought I would bump this thread to say I finally went ahead and booked myself a taxi ride on Just Jane for the 7th August, which has the added benefit of being the RAF Benevolent Fund Airshow! Thanks to everyone with advice on how to get there and I think I’ve got it all sortred out.

Any tips on having a great day at East Kirky much appreciated.
