Advice please – warbird flights

I am asking this on behalf of a work colleague (not me, as you will understand from the request – pockets not deep enough!). Do you any of you have an idea how much it would probably cost for a trip in a two-seat Spitfire (if indeed it is even possible)? This has been prompted by the recent series on Channel 4. So that I can back up the undoubted bad news that I might well have to impart as a result with some better news, what is an approximate figure for something like a T-6, which although not the same, I would suspect is a great trip (At62b/Leah – where are you when I need the answers? You seem to have disappeared of late!!)

Thoughts and suggestions gratefully accepted!!

Nasty little two-seater ex-RAF trainers.

You must’ve seen them 😉

As an alternative you might like to look

HERE

Not warbirds, but Extras and Bullfrogs. The neat bit is that you can do dogfighting with camera guns. Plenty of that available in the US but I think its a first for here. And you get to take the video (DVD) home with you to relive your kills.

Fast jet rides too.

They are predicting £1 = $2 in the very near future

I can get you up in a T-6 for $100, a pristine T-6G owned by **** Jones here in Colorado and called ‘Spanish Lady’, a beauty of a plane. He’ll flop you around for an hour and let you take the stick.

Problem is, like I said, it’s here in Colorado. But if you want a 2 seat Spitfire, that would lead us on to Bill Greenwood up in Aspen and TE308…last I heard the cost on that ride was $1200.

She’s not disappeared, I saw her on Wednesday 😀

I think the only way of achieving something like this in the UK now is to find an owner who is prepared to take you on a cost sharing flight, under CAA rules it is illegal to take a ‘fare paying’ passenger for a trip in an aircraft unless it has a public transport certificate. Harvard G-BKRA which operated from Shoreham used to have a public cat however I’m not sure it still does.

Hope this helps in some way.
