AEF Chipmunk safety video

Hi all

Does anyone have a copy of the RAF air experience flight safety video for the chipmunk?
I haven’t seen it for years and would love to see it again.

Also any pictures of 1 AEF at RAF manston would be great.

Kind regards

I will always remember waddling out to the aircraft wearing the parachute.

That brings back memories – CCF 1947 pattern RAF battledress in the early 1970’s with 7AEF at RAF Newton. The harness pulled the crotch up so the trousers went half-mast – which added to the general feeling of looking like a complete idiot when you tried to nonchalantly walk out to the Chippie doing a passable impression of the Hunchback of Notre Dame -and then you had to climb up onto the wing root….

Parachutes which were curiously marked US. I don’t think there were American either. 🙂

never got to fly in a chippie they had been replaced by Bulldogs by the time i got do some AEF flying from RAF Woodvale, shame really. Did get to fly in the Grob Tutor and the Vigilant motor glider also a few times, the highlight though was a flight in a Nimrod from Kinloss!! Now that was fun!! 😎

I always remember Ced Hughes at 5AEF reminding you to pull the handle once clear of the aircraft as the film didn’t actually tell you to do it. How to yes but to do no.
He also said never worry if as you float down over the Cambridgeshire countryside if you hear a brass band. Don’t worry it will be him with a welcoming committee to pin a medal on you for being the first to jump for “x” years and not your final calling…

I still remember being very sternly told: “Aim for a spot ahead of the trailing edge of the wing. By the time you reach it, it will be ahead of you and you will fall astern of the trailing edge.”

He didn’t mention anything about the approaching tail-plane, though, as I recall!
