Reading this months irish air letter it’s mentioned that summer 2007’s fleet will consist of two more A320’s(both leased) & two brand new A330’s,a -200 & -300 models. There is no mention of any new long haul routes for 2007 yet so i assume that these aircraft will just be used to increase frequency on existing routes.Perhaps routes that were stopped recently like Orlando & Baltimore could be re-introduced?.As for their registrations i’m going to bet that one will be EI-DXB after dubai keeping the tradition of airport codes as aircraft regs,as for the other one possibly a return of EI-SHN or they could use EI-SNN as well i suppose. It’s also mentioned that for summer ’08 Aer Lingus are talking to airbus about two more factory fresh A330’s(type not specified),& airbus are willing to provide slots as apparently they’re quite busy summer 2008  (probably still trying to deliver the 1st A380 😀 ).The A321 fleet will also be up for replacement by then too, either more A320’s or new A321’s.On a side note the A321 fleet will visit sprayavia at norwich for re-painting starting this month,my god they certainly need one!

I think they’ll get A350’s whenever they’re built. If Aer Lingus did go for 787’s then i think they would be more interested in the -10 version, but that hasn’t be officially announced yet,and if it does come along then it would enter service at a similar time to the A350 so it remains to be seen really.

They also had A350 ads plastered around billboards with the airport.

Oh I know what you mean! :p Well, if they think splashing out on a 2-weelk long-haul holiday elevates them above everyone else, well, they’re just a tad deluded!
Anyways…Did anyone see the advertisments for the A350 in the check-in area of DUB airport, talk about direct advertising by Airbus or what! They obviously value Aer Lingus as a customer and are making sure they get that order! :dev2:
Besides the A330s that EI are buying in the meantime, do ye think the dreamliner or the A350 will get the nod for EI’s long-term fleet renewal?

Well they really think they are above and beyond the rest of us just because they can afford 2 weeks in South Africa playing golf.

The A330 flies DUB-CPT and back no problem. It was when it was operated by a 767 the year before LTU started it had to stop in PMI. The LT flight is non-stop in both directions.
As regards the loads they are just like any other charter route. Slow at the start and at the end but in the middle that flight is always filled to capacity and they even offer a premium economy product which sells incredibley well. Ive seen people come to check in asking if their was any seats left even offering to pay but they never have any luck.
Its great to have a DUB-CPT flight but I work for their handling agent in DUB and the passengers on it are a totally different breed.

As far as i’m aware SAA might still have an A330 or two in their fleet, the bmi one has returned to them. The problem with DUB-CPT is that the A330 can’t fly it non-stop in both directions,LTU’s service has a stop in palma on the way back(i think).
I doubt we’ll see Baltimore reintroduced, apparently the loads weren’t great at all for a finish.
I’ve read that the passenger loads were not great on that route but the belly cargo was quite lucrative for aer lingus.
The two new A330’s are for expansion not fleet even though some of the current A330’s are around 12yrs old.

Oh you’re right, they have been returned , just checked on their website. Well that puts an abrupt end to that idea unless they use one of their A340s!

Do SAA still have A330s or have they all gone back to lessors? I know one was a BD machine.

Would anyone ever see SAA flying this route with one of their A330s?
By: SHAMROCK321 - 15th October 2006 at 16:39
There is demand for a DUB-CPT service. LTU restatrt their weekly A330 flight in a few weeks and alot of pax transfer through various hubs. Maybe 2/3 weekly would be sufficent.

They could just be replacing two of their older A330’s as some of them were eg number 055 to be built and 059 to be built

I doubt we’ll see Baltimore reintroduced, apparently the loads weren’t great at all for a finish. Would there be any chance of a South African route or would there be a demand for this sort of service?
