Aer Lingus and JetBlue have teamed up to offer their respective customers onward connections on eachothers route networks. Here’s the full story:
DUBLIN, Feb 6 (Reuters) – Ireland’s Aer Lingus (AERL.I: Quote, Profile , Research) said on Tuesday it planned to form a strategic alliance with U.S. airline JetBlue (JBLU.O: Quote, Profile , Research), forming what it said was the world’s first tie-up between two international low-cost carriers.
“The partnership will significantly extend Aer Lingus’ reach into North America,” the Dublin-based airline said in a statement. “Customers will now be able to make just one booking which will allow them to travel from Ireland to the U.S. and onto a direct Jet Blue flight to 51 destinations.”
Those destinations were across the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean, it added.

This is a smart move. A good move to lead Dublin to become a point of entry/departure for trans-Atlantic flights. Plus, you’re getting good l/d service from EI.

UK passengers will be able to book for example BHX-DUB-JFK-onwards to 51 destinations. Doesnt that sound better than heading to LHR or for some people Im sure it sounds better than sitting in a CO 757 across the Atlantic. (not me personally)
Couldn’t agree more, you also have the advantage of being able to clear US Immigration at DUB, saving lots of time in the USA. And yes, it’s much more fun on a nice big A330 than a little 757. I still have fond memories of my GLA-DUB-LAX trip.

It is good news. EI said that even after they pulled out of OW in April they would still codeshare with AA but I wonder what will happen now that this is in the open?
Do you think that more airlines could join this allaince to create somthing simple and easy and challenge some of the exsisting alliances which are expensive and complicated.

That is suprising, bug great news for both parties! JBU really do have an extensive network, which will benefit EI passengers!
