The thread about the He 111 on the beach resulted in this image falling out of my files.
Just for fun, who will be the first person to identify the engine and likely aircraft type? 🙂

Difficult to really tell from the photo, but if German then I’d agree Bramo-Fafnir. The length of the reduction gear assembly between hub and engine looks about right, but it really is difficult to see much with all the rope and barnacles. It might be my imagination, but the blade flat to the mud just looks as if it has the reddish primer typical of German VDM blades.

Radial engine certainly…..Bramo Fafnir maybe…if German, Dornier 17….prop doesn’t look quite right….maybe American ?

Yes, I now know how I know him!! Thank you.

I am not sure how you know him, he lived at Rye Harbour at one time, was a fisherman whos boat was mainly used for dragging aircraft parts in ! He flew R/C aircraft with my dad in the early 70’s and built a beautiful R/C Typhoon from scratch which i saw flying at the Hastings airshow at Bulverhythe in the late 70’s early 80’s. Still lives locally i believe and has barns full of stuff…i hope anyway.

Why do I know the name Tim Ruck, but cannot place who he is??
By: mikeeepannell - 11th April 2013 at 21:57
I remember the B17 wing that was pulled up in the late 1980’s, that went to Headcorn i believe. I got some pieces from it too…they went to err…… dust.
Tim Ruck has barns full of this stuff and all over his house, i always remember the shed with cannons stood up against the wall from a Typhoon i believe !

Yes, certainly Jumo 211.
One of many aero-engines that used to get pulled up here.
Almost every other month in the 70s you’d find Merlins, DB601s, P&Ws, Jumos and at least two Sabres turned up – not to mention big airframe lumps from B17s, B26s and Lancasters etc and, once, a complete Spitfire wing. Pretty much all scrapped, including a monstrous He 177 undercarriage leg.

Jumo 211 with what looks like He111 manifold.

Me210/410? Do you know what happened to this engine? There are a few interesting bits in the Fisherman’s museum but then I guess you know that already.
