I heard that this ‘race’ was banned in the UK, obviously for good reason..
That is a really dumb statement to make. That accident could have happened anywhere. Simply two aircraft racing who lost sight of each other on a turn, and sadly collided. Could have happened in Reno or even at the Schneider trophy in the UK last week.
If AERO GP is banned in the UK, I would imagine its got something to do with civilian aircraft carrying and dropping explosive ordinance. The racing they do is no more dangerous than the air races flown in the UK.

Can’t help feeling the only reason it was on any of the TV news was that it showed video footage of some poor chap dying (C5 did at least according to the better half).
Utterly disgraceful.

Tragic news, Saw it on Sky this morning, Yet again some of the press used Headlines involving words such as stunt pilots etc,Wish they could just report the facts,It was a Air Race not a Airshow performance. My sympathies go to his family.

Very sad news. The Maltese media have reported that it was a mid-air during the competition. The second pilot, Eddie Goggins, was able to climb to altitude and bale out.
Condolences to Gabor Varga’s family and all those involved with Aero GP.
