Aeroboot Research

On this dreary wet Sunday I wanted to take the opportunity to undertake a bit of research concerning the date of the autumn 2012 Indoor Aeroboot at Newark Air Museum.

Do people think that there is any benefit in scheduling Newark’s autumn 2012 event on the same weekend as a Military Collectors event that is being organised on the Newark Showground?

The museum event would be on the Saturday – the other event on the Sunday.

Is there any crossover in potential visitors?

Would the events complement each other or would they conflict?

Feedback and comments would be appreciated.

A quick ‘bump’ before we head-off to make a decision on the autumn date! 😉

My earlier post today was made via a computer at the museum (I was over there for the Sutton Wick Beverley commemoration – more on that later on the NAM Briefing Thread).

Since that post was made the museum has received a couple of calls from ‘long-established’ Aeroboot supporters who have made some valuable input to this debate. Coupled to that we have looked at our visitor and Aeroboot participant information comparing Saturday and Sunday figures; as a consequence we are veering back towards a Saturday event and perhaps not trying to pick up any cross trade from the other event.

We will be making the decision in the next 48 hours so the date can be included in the 2012 brochure – print run 50k.

Once again thanks for the comments and feedback; both on and off-board!

I agree that for the buyer, especially if travelling any distance, both events on the same day makes most sense, plus…

…it is hard enough ‘selling’ the wife on one day away (filling the house and garage with more junk) let alone an overnight trip!

And…..camping in November…..brrrrrr!!! 😮

We are seriously thinking of going for the event on the same day (we already receive good visitor numbers coming over from that particular event) – this would be Sunday 4th November 2012.

Overnight camping gives us some insurance issues and we have to ensure that we have NAM people on site – not always possible in late autumn.

More (all) feedback appreciated! 🙂

So doing camping for a nominal fee?

If both events were on the same day they might complement each other but not many buyers can afford overnight accommodation to attend both, any advantage to the sellers would be marginal.

Thanks for the feedback and the Saturday v Sunday question is something that I hadn’t pondered – any other views on that?

The event in question promotes itself by advertising that they are operating “next to the Newark Air Museum”.

Hi TO23,

Firstly, thanks to Newark for hosting another great ‘boot yesterday.

I don’t think it would pursuade me to stay over for the other event. I stopped going to Militaria shows years ago as “finds” are pretty few and far between and I doubt I could even recoup the cost of a table if I attempted to sell my aerojumble at one.

We haven’t had the Saturday v. Sunday debate for a while. Would prospects be better all round if the ‘boot was held on the same day? That way, the Militaria crowd might help extend the duration of the ‘boot by wandering across after “doing” their show first (and vice versa)?

To be honest, the best bonus of last year for me was the coincidental dates of your ‘boot on Saturday 29th October and Aeroventure’s Military and Radio Electrojumble at Doncaster on the Sunday, a show I attend every year. With Aeroventure’s kind permission, I was able to stay overnight at the Museum and was ready to go first thing next morning, having saved many £££s in fuel costs by not having to drive home (plus gaining a bit of a lie in!). That wouldn’t necessarily work for everyone though.

Actually, I’m kicking myself for having forgotten about the ‘Normous Newark Autojumble, which is on today. Circumstances would have prevented me from staying over this time anyway but I might try it in the future. Some of my stuff can be attractive to the car crowd so it might be worthwhile even though “aero-finds” are few and far between at Autojumbles these days: like Aerojumbles, their glory days are behind them sadly. Again though, that’s probably an attractive prospect which is unique to me amongst the regulars at the Aeroboot.

Hope this ramble helps?
