Aerojumble for those downunder – This Sat

Evening all,

I know not many of you are over this side of town 🙂 But we have been developing our Aerojumble at the Museum over the last 12 months and the next one is this Saturday, in the hangars from 9-5. Normal Museum entry applies. As we have not really had such things over here in a while we have been really surprised and pleased by the response with plenty of tables allocated to visitors. I heard a muttering that there was a Viper engine even being brought along. I may bring one of my spare Beaufighter wing sections if I can attach it to the car properly !

I will pop up a little report after the event anyway – now back into my shed to look over the stuff I have amassed over the last six years 🙂

Cheers

I could be interested in the Boston throttle quadrant – depending on the price, if the seller is reading this?

Was funny, some of the stuff that used to be in my grandfathers old shed reappeared on some sellers tables – he would be having a right chuckle at that. There was a fantastic WW1 timber camera case I spotted, some not too run of the mill gauges, which always makes for a nice change, not that I would know what they were ! One guy had a great set of manuals and older model kits so he did a brisk trade, an 1830 casing, Curtiss Electric Prop hub/motor, working B24 APU units etc, Boston Throttle Quad, Neptune control column and seat, DC-3 seat, Oxford seat, Tiger Moth panel, Blast tubes from a Vengeance and unfinished tubes for the Beau, lots of plugs, wires, switches etc so those in need of things for projects were certainly finding what they want.

Absolutely going to run it again next year, I think we are developing something here which has always suffered the tyranny of distance in this country. Bit of fine tuning and away we go.

Looks like a Southern Hemisphere Newark aerojumble :), and best of luck to you guys for its future success.
Would love to know what other little trinkets turned up there?

Thanks to everyone who came, this event is certainly growing and we had a great day weather wise for it. Some great items from various stallholders all off to new homes. Certainly going to be on again next year.

Aero bearing plate

I went today understanding this is the LARGEST AEROJUMBLE in the southern hemisphere and was pleased to find some juicy bits and this curiosity :

This is an aero bearing plate, one of the earliest devices for calculating bearing, ground speed and drift. Inscribed on the back was the RAAF serial for a DH9, A6-8, part of the Imperial Gift establishing the RAAF after WW1. A6-8 was converted to components in 1924, and most DH-9s were gone from RAAF service by 1928. This was mixed in with jet age gauges and the usual ephemera of a jumble, a piece of the earliest aircraft in RAAF service with some of the latest. You never, never know what you’ll find if you never, never go.

I was also very pleased to find a voltage regulator for a wind powered electrical generator used on later Westland Wapitis and Bristol Bulldogs, oil dilution valve for single stage Merlin Mosquito and pilot’s sliding window for Mosquito, all the necessary accessories for the man-about-town.

The Museum was most solicitous of my nutritional needs, putting on a BBQ, and additionally arranged a blue sky day : a well organised event, thank you.:applause:

Although I am on your side of town so to speak Ewan, a quick trip down to Melbourne is still six and a half hours worth in the car! Maybe next year?
Hope it all goes well.
